“This course significantly strengthened my understanding of technical and professional writing AND rhetoric studies in ways I did not expect. The readings were so interesting and aligned with my personal research interests in exciting ways (which seems to be a throughline among all of my fellow classmates). Each of our assignments felt carefully crafted to support course and student learning through their practical applications; I feel like a much stronger instructor, student, and peer now. The curriculum revisions gave me experience revising/creating “high stakes” content in a low stakes, well-supported environment. I feel much more confident going into classrooms as an instructor and feel a deeper appreciation for the curriculum because of our work on it. Also, I deeply appreciate Dr. Bennett’s efforts to scaffold publishable/presentable work into our assignments. For example, the book review assignment was setup for us to have a final “publishable” review to send out to our chosen journals, which she helped us get into contact with and even receive free reviewer copies. She also helped us write a conference proposal to Computers and Writing for a class proposal, which we sent out. These professional/researcher development practices are incredibly helpful!”

Creating community, communicating ideas to others, exploring self and belonging, listening and reflecting, working collaboratively, conducting analysis, and research experience. I’ve learned so much regarding what grad school and academic writing is through this class, despite this not even being a core aspect of this course, and it has helped me immensely in my courses this semester and in the future.

Dr. Bennett is truly an amazing professor. She made each class meeting focused on open-discussion and collaboration. She even required us to create collaborative rubrics for Projects, a practice I never experienced but thoroughly enjoyed as it helped my peers and I better understand what is being asked of us. Dr. Bennett emphasized accountability and the option to ask for extension as well. Overall, I really enjoyed her course and I can’t wait to take more taught by her.
